Vacuum Pump Assembly Part
Difficult Precision Machining of Prosthetic Leg Part
Industry: Medical
Project Type: Precision Machine, Fine Finish, and Partial Assembly
Description:
The intricate working of a prosthetic leg needs the design to be as comfortable as it is technologically advanced. Our customer needed a vacuum pump assembly part machined with several special considerations. The as two piece vacuum pump moves, it creates suction and holds the prosthetic to the limb. In the end, the part needed to seal perfectly and work very quietly. Our customer was looking for a local source with internal capabilities to take the part from production through finishing and assembly.
Finishing with Proprietary Coating
RD Machine was selected for this project due to our extensive experience with complex parts and specialized equipment to meet the customers specifications in a timely and cost effective manner. We did the precision machining of both pieces and finished machining in a hard state (after the material was heat treated). One piece of the two part assembly was given a #10 finish to create a smooth fit with no noise and no turning marks on the part. The second piece required a proprietary coating which can change the tight tolerance of +/-.0004 after plating. The customer was pleased with the finished part. With our lean manufacturing set up, we partially assemble for the customer and ship it to them to increase efficiencies.
