Internal Part for Pressure Sensor
When equipment simply can't break down
Industry: Process Control Industry
Project Type: Deep Cavity Machining
Description:
Our customer in the process control industry was working on a part for the inside of a pressure sensor used on the sea floor for offshore drilling. Obviously, parts used in the equipment on the sea floor must be reliable and simply can’t break down without having a catastrophic impact. RD Machine was consulted on how to utilize our experience to enhance the existing design and manufacture this complex part to ensure quality.
insuring Against Missed Opportunities
It was a very difficult part to machine with very tight tolerances of +/- .0002′. Inconel, a high-temperature, corrosion-resistant nickel alloy is very difficult to machine, and is prone to breaking tools. Inconel was a required material used in this project. While this part may not look impressive from the outside, it’s highly complex on the inside. It required deep cavity machining, and in-spindle probing was used inside the machining tool to check dimensions. Without this intricate process, it’s a missed opportunity once it’s out.
