Description:

A process control industry customer approached us looking for a way to eliminate manual processing of a part assembly used in the electronics industry. They already had the assembly design done, but were looking for ways to reduce human handling, make the finishing process more efficient, and machine tight tolerancing requirements. The part originally needed alternating masking on both sides in order to deposit vaporized metal on each side, a process they were looking to automate and make more efficient.

Figured Out How to Hold Tolerancing in a Free State

With the assembly design done, machining the piece presented some unique challenges. Due to the tight tolerancing in the teeth are that is cut-free, we had to figure out how to hold tolerancing of .0005″ in a free state. In addition, a highly intricate process was used to stress relieve the part to eliminate any chance of warping. By machining this piece and eliminating manual processing required in the finishing stage, RD Machine was able to save our customer time and money.
